What’s up at Ryanair?

This article summarises the main developments that have happened in Ryanair since the last edition of our Cockpit Flash.

Ryanair Shareholder General Assembly – 25 Sept

On 25 September, Ryanair shareholders held their annual General Assembly. In a Press Release of 21 September, the RPG warned that many pilots were leaving the company for better working and employment conditions in other airlines and asked Ryanair shareholders to respond to a few questions.

Furthermore, it is interesting to note that a third of Ryanair shareholders voted against the pay report. Indeed, while the company registered its first profit loss (by 8%), Mr O’Leary salary and bonus continued to rise. For more information, you can read this interesting article.

The Ryanair Pilot Group (RPG) elects new council members

On 10 September, Ryanair pilots were elected as council members of the group. This is a very good news since the RPG council did not initially have any Ryanair pilots who feared for their job. However, given the company’s history with unions, the representatives will not reveal their identities to avoid retaliation from their employer. Their names will be published the day they receive protection for their job.

Collision in Dublin

On 7 October, two Ryanair B737 aircraft collided at Dublin airport on a taxiway. Operations resumed normally after minor delays.

French court ruling

On 28 October 2014, the French Court of Appeal ruled against Ryanair and condemned the airline to pay € 8.1m in damages and € 200,000 in fines for breaches of French labor law. It is an important victory against social dumping in Europe.
