Press Release on SAS Flight SK2590 at Brussels Airport

06/02/2026 08:30

The Belgian Cockpit Association (BeCA) has been informed of a serious incident at Brussels Airport on Thursday 5 February 2026 around 21:00, during which a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) Airbus A320 aircraft (SK2590), in the departure phase, used a taxiway instead of the runway. The aircraft was brought to a safe stop and more than 100 passengers were disembarked via stairs. No injuries have been reported.

BeCA provided immediate personal support to the flight crew involved and will continue to do so through its professional and peer support networks such as IFALPA and the Norwegian Pilots Association.

BeCA can understand people are shocked by this event, but strongly urges the press and media not to speculate on potential causes. A technical investigation has been initiated, and we are confident that its conclusions will help prevent the recurrence of a similar event in the future.

BeCA is the only recognised professional association representing airline pilots in Belgium. It is self-funded and politically independent. The association works in close cooperation with Belgian stakeholders and provides expertise on matters linked to the pilot profession and aviation safety. BeCA represents around 500 pilots and is actively involved at European and international levels through the European Cockpit Association (ECA) and the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA).
