IFALPA Position on Mental Health Requirements for Active Pilots

Cockpit Flash articles
On 5 August, IFALPA published a position paper on the mental health requirements for active pilots, expressing their opposition to extensive psychological/psychiatric evaluation as part of the routine pilot aeromedical assessment. It argues that such assessments might increase stress and anxiety and tools that are currently available for those tests are not fully reliable. Psychological assessment must therefore be limited to pre-employment testing. IFALPA further stresses its commitment to the creation of Pilot Assistance Programs within pilots’ associations. BeCA is looking at the possibility to establish such program.
