Global pilots & industry call upon ICAO for new guidance on drone operations

In a paper (http://bit.ly/36HeXyJ) presented at the 40th ICAO Assembly in October (entitled “The need for standards and guidance to mitigate the risks of, and to improve response to unauthorized UAS operations”), IFALPA and industry urged ICAO to develop standards and guidance to address unauthorised drone operations.

ICAO was requested to establish a process to allow the industry to provide input to mitigate the risks of and improve government and industry responses to, unauthorized drone operations, such as:

  • developing guidance material
  • developing a generic concept of operation that could be used by States to establish procedures, and
  • defining taxonomy related to UAS incidents and accidents.

The Assembly also reviewed two other papers, “UAS Traffic Management” (http://bit.ly/2rpQAW1) and “The safe and efficient integration of UAS into airspace” (http://bit.ly/2WUARdb) (see previous Cockpit Flash for more information).
