As you could read in the last edition of our Cockpit Flash, Europe is currently reviewing the rules and standards on cabin air quality. Our European structure, ECA, therefore created a task force a few months agos, in order to feed the discussions at European level. They have already met a couple of times, under the leadership of Vinciane, BeCA’s Committee’s Assistant Secretary, and during their last meeting, they finalised their position paper. The document focuses on the safety issues arising from a fume event and not on the potential long-term health troubles, as more scientific research is needed in this area. The paper also encourages fume events reporting and we would like to add that the new Occurrence Reporting regulation makes it now compulsory to report those events.
