Because of its extreme flexibility, the forthcoming EASA FTL text contains many interpretation problems. The ECA Flight Time Limitations Working Group will provide tools to help understand the rules as soon as EASA has solved the main issues. One of the main challenges, especially for long-haul and night flights, will be to ensure that efficient FRM (Fatigue Risk Management) is correctly implemented in our airlines. To this end, we will need to find and train FRM pilot experts in every airline. Note also that the EASA rules are expected to enter into force on 18 February 2016.
