News from TUIFly Belgium – CF 2018-02

As you were informed a few months ago, an historical step was made in our company on 26 July: the First Collective Agreement at TUIfly BE was signed!

For several years we have worked on the social dialogue within our company and I sincerely believe this agreement is a great achievement.

The whole negotiating team was happy that we were able to negotiate with our management in a constructive manner. This was possible thanks to the unity of the whole pilot community. All pilots stood up together: thank you once again for your support! I would also like to thank both Line Managers Stéphane Boedt and Jörgi Smets, who took part in the meetings with great dedication.

Another important topic will be the evolution of our scheduling. A new rostering tool is being developed, extra budget has been generated. An automated system is necessary due to our complex operations. This system will allow a more efficient planning of the crews. However, we will have to ensure that this optimization of planning guarantees not only that rosters are robust, but also that rosters are decent and balanced.

Since this year a bi-annual schedule evaluation meeting (schema overleg) has been implemented, aligning with working practices at TUI NL. This meeting goes more in depth of all pairings and special rotations in preparation of the FSAG (Fatigue Safety Action Group). We await the positive evolution of this new organisation feature within our FRMS.

Concerning the FSAG, the union delegation has taken the decision not to attend the following meet- ings. We await the organisation of a meeting with Head of Compliance to investigate how the FSAG can evolve in a positive manner and with the con- fidence of the entire Crew Community. The FSAG has been implemented for a few years now and although we believe that certain aspects of our FRM are well developed and efficient, we think there is room for improvement. Recently it was for exam- ple decided to adapt the parameters of our SAFE-CARE system to allow more consecutive planning of night flights. This has been done without scientific research or background. Adapting the rules to fit the operational needs of planning is not the correct way of working!

Moreover the pilot representation gave negative advice for 7-day SIA pairings starting with early duties and ending with night flight(s). Those pairings come back on the 7th day with a late evening positioning. This advice was disregarded.

A fatigue survey will be launched soon, at this stage we do not support this survey. The scope is not clearly defined. The conclusion and action points of last survey are still not disclosed.

As delegates, our work does not stop, we will follow up the implementation of the Collective Agreement and continue to evaluate the measures taken. We will also continue to tackle the problems that you report to us.
