You can find hereby a personal invitation to the movie “A dark reflection” (4 March, 8 PM, Cinema Galeries, Brussels).
“A dark reflection” is an investigative movie, based on real events. It was produced and directed by Tristan Loraine, a former B757 airline pilot who lost his medical fitness because of heath problems due to repeated exposure to cabin air contamination.
The movie tells the story of two British journalists who, incidentally, discover aviation’s biggest cover-up. A serious in-flight incident not disclosed by JASP Airlines reveals a hidden truth. Their investigation soon seeks to prove that passengers have been knowingly put at risk since the 1950s. When the new airline CEO discovers the darker side of the airline industry and its secret campaign of denial being withheld by airline owners, he is faced with a moral dilemma. What will win: corporate profit or the public’s safety?
This movie is a fiction, but it is based on real events. It is aimed at raising awareness among crews, passengers and the authorities on a serious and ongoing health and safety issue. Last year, the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation revealed in a study that hundreds of occurrences took place between 2006 and 2013. This study triggered an investigation of 40 cases (BFU, 2014). Furthermore, an internal UK CAA report listed some 50 incapacitations under its mandatory occurrence reporting on more than 250 events in a 6-year period from 2006 until 2011 (CAA, 2011).
Despite the many accident and incident reports and scientific publications about crew impairments in relation to cabin air contamination (e.g. AAIB, 2004; Swiss AAIB 2006, SHK, 1999), regulators all over the world still refuse to set either safe limits or ban a specific set of chemicals as in other industries.
BeCA has always been actively involved in this issue at European, national and company levels (for more information, please have a look at our special webpage on cabin air). We think this fictional movie is a nice and relaxing way of getting into a real and worrying issue.
You and your partner are therefore invited to the projection on 4 March 2015 at 8 PM, at the Cinema Galeries (Brussels). Please note that this is a private session. To access the session, you just need to print this invitation (once or twice depending on the number of participants) and show it at the entrance. The participation is free, but the number of seats is limited. For organisational purposes, may we ask you to confirm your attendance by email? For the moment, the film is not distributed in Belgium, so it might be the only occasion for you to see it.
