Improving safety together: Your feedback needed!

Help fix the Notam problem!

Aviation prides itself on safety. There is a glaring gap. Every day, every airline flight in the world: Pilots are forced to use a broken, archaic briefing system from the 1920s, and as a result, they regularly miss critical flight information. Instead of waiting for someone else to fix it, how about we – as Pilots and Dispatchers – work on solving the problem?

That’s the core energy behind the Notam Team, and why we’ve created fixingnotams.org.

The Notam Team is a group formed by Pilots and Dispatchers that want to fix Notams, which started work in August 2019, and has a nine-month lifespan – Do or Die. We are working on ideas for a new Notam system, collaborating with designers, creatives, data specialists, and visionaries from other industries that have solved similar problems.

Anyone that wants to help us is welcome to join. We use Slack to communicate, and simple Google Docs to share and develop ideas. Keen to be part of this? Read the full story of the Notam Team, and drop a short note to jointheteam@fixingnotams.org.

Survey on automatic landings in good weather

IFATCA is studying the effects of automatic landings in good weather (e.g. performing CAT III approach in CAVOK). In order to better understand the pilot’s perspectives and procedures, they have created a short survey and invite pilots to participate. It only takes two minutes and will help them greatly in understanding what is going on in the cockpits: http://bit.ly/34IozaC.

EBBR: Mirror at stand 170 – Send your feedback!

To improve situational awareness during a turnaround, Brussels Airport considers the installation of mirrors at the parking stands. This gives the flight crew a good view of the on-going activities around the aircraft such as catering, loading, fueling, preparing push-back, etc. To assess the feasibility of this project a test mirror has been installed at stand 170. If you have used the mirror we are eager to receive your feedback through this easy questionnaire: http://bit.ly/2oYjADk!

Note: Since stand 170 is mostly used by wide-body aircraft the mirror has been adjusted for such aircraft types. Nevertheless, we would be happy to receive comments from crews on single-aisle types as well.
