Following the recent escalation in the Middle East conflict, our sister associations ECA and IFALPA published position reports on “Flights into or over conflict zones”. BeCA fully supports their recommendations:
• The safety of passengers, crews and aircraft may never be jeopardized.
• The precautionary principle should always prevail. The State of the Operator should only authorize operations into or over conflict zones after a thorough risk assessment and the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures.
• The final responsibility lies with the Commander of the flight. He/she should therefore receive detailed information about the threat and the risk assessment. His/her decision to operate the flight or not should not be challenged nor influenced by any kind of pressure.
BeCA remains in close contact with the Belgian CAA since some airlines still operate or might restart operations to Israël soon. Don’t hesitate to contact us via the usual channel or even the BeCA hotline should you be planned to operate near or into a zone of conflict.
